Milk And Honey

John Lennon & Yoko Ono: Milk & Honey
Before Double Fantasy had even been released, Milk & Honey, had been mentioned as the follow-up album. It was really a pencilled-in project but with Lennon's death, Yoko attempted to slot Lennon's demos into his projected half of Milk & Honey and the results are very uneven.
While The Beatles made something special out of Free As A Bird & Real Love see Anthology, Lennon's tracks on Milk & Honey appear unfinished and/or hurried and I doubt that Lennon would have allowed much of his contribution to be released if he'd stayed alive.
However, there are actually two decent Lennon tracks on Milk & Honey, the single:
...and three that are not bad:
As tarted up DEMO tracks, all of the tracks are certainly interesting...but they really did need a lot more work...and it was downright misleading for Yoko to market Milk & Honey as the unfinished follow-up album to Double Fantasy. It wasn't! Yoko, as usual, is awful, there's not a memorable song here and her performances are totally abysmal!
John Lennon & Yoko Ono: Milk And Honey
"...I've always loved this album since I got it on vinyl years back. If your a true Lennon fan this is a must-have. I like Yoko too, so bite me..." Amazon reviewer Chris A, McKenzie
"...All of Lennon's songs on Milk And Honey rock harder and flirt more with new-wave and reggae the he ever had on such tracks as My Little Flower Princess, Borrowed Time and the biting rockers I'm Stepping Out and I Don't Wanna Face It - all brimming with Lennon's trademark wit and charm..." Amazon reviewer Andre S. Grindle
It must be said though, that Lennon's Milk & Honey tracks are far more developed than those on John Lennon Anthology...and they're certainly interesting. Just don't expect this to be a great album, nor for it to be a satisfying end to the great love affair that was John & Yoko.
