Caveman

Caveman

Unlike One Million Years BC (see below), the 1967 movie starring Raquel Welch which used Harry Hausen's thrilling (for the 1960s) stop-motion photography to create terrifying, threatening dinosaurs, Caveman is played mainly for laughs...and silly laughs at that.

Starring ex-Beatle Ringo Starr as Atouk, a horny little devil, who gets thrown out of his tribe because he fwants to zug-zug Alluna Lana (Barbara Bach), the leader's girl. He ends up joining a bunch of outcasts, including Lar (Denis Quaid) his former best friend (who'd been left to die after a dinosaur attack) & Tala (Shelley Long), who'd like Atouk to zug-zug her...but hasn't got the natural...attributes of Alluna Luana.

In this extremely ridiculous and enjoyable movie, we discover how Man learned to:

  • stand erect
  • make fire
  • take drugs
  • make music
  • cook a dinosaur's egg

Caveman trailer

...and also aaah...fall in love.

"...Caveman is my first leading role. I haven't been in a movie for years cause  So I really enjoy the chance of going from a weird weakling to king of the castle in Caveman...It's very slapstick, and there's only fifteen words in the vocabulary, so there's lots of miming and grunting. They'll be able to understand it even in China..." Ringo Starr, 1981

Directed by Jaws co-writer Carl Gottlieb and with no dialogue other than an invented vocabulary*, Caveman has no redeeming qualities whatsoever and in a number of places, it's er...seriously politically incorrect, kinda like Cheech & Chong without (most of) the drugs.  Nevertheless, I recommend it for an idiotic, gleeful waste of 90 minutes, something we all need to indulge in, occasionally.

Caveman DVD

"...Totally silly and hilarious movie...I saw this movie originally as a kid and couldn't wait for it to arrive on DVD. Now that it's here it's now a family favorite. There are some scenes not appropriate for children but those are light and few..." Amazon reviewer Sylvia Kelman "Amamom"

"...Just a simple movie with no big stunts...Nice to just relax and laugh! Worth every penny! If you like a simple life and something that will make the whole family laugh...BUY IT!..." Amazon reviewer David L. Hadley

"...I have seen this film dozens of times, and think its extremely funny. A basic story line with an invented vocabulary, hilarious mime, grunts, groans and the gorgeous Barbara Bach! People who think this movie is "stupid" or "bad" just don't understand that "silly" is an art form too. This is modern slapstick at its best!..." Amazon reviewerAlexander S. Meyer

"...This was one of the best movies of all time. It was filmed before I was born and I still love it. My parents and older brother also love it. Evidently, it is a movie for the entire family. "Atook Alunda Lana"..."  Amazon reviewer vanman

I'll hopefully be doing a review of 1 Million Years BC in 2008...
