Monty Python: And Now For Something Completely Different
Created to introduce the global (read: American) audience to the visual goonery that was Monty Python, And Now For Something Completely Different is, for many fans outside the UK, their first taste of the mindbending Python world.
Consequently, it's well-loved...though newcomers may be confused by the dated (almost shoddy) filming. Directed by their television director, Ian MacNaughton, it's certainly true that many of the sketches have been improved through the bigger budget...but there are also many moments when And Now For Something Completely Differenthas been painfully undershot, even for standards of the era.
That being said, there's plenty to enjoy, with now, well-loved classic sketches linked by Terry Gilliam's wonderful animations

...and Graham Chapman's colonel, who keeps interrupting proceedings when things have got too "silly". The sketches include:
How not to be seen
Self defence against fresh fruit
The English-Hungarian phrasebook
The dead parrot sketch
The accountant who wanted to be a lion-tamer
The funniest joke in the world
The Upper Class Twit Of The Year...and...
Gay soldiers precision drilling

"...Silly, madcap, and irrepressibly fun, Ian MacNoughton's celluloid reprise of the very best Python sketches is a nonstop gauntlet of guffaws for die-hard fans and a hilarious introduction to the troupe's surreal, anarchic brand of British humor for newcomers..."Amazon reviewer The Best Movies By Farr
"...How To Avoid Being Seen" and "How To Defend Yourself With A Piece Of Fresh Fruit" are both classic sketches, and are not to be missed, like everything else in this movie..."Amazon reviewer Kifte
All wonderful stuff and recommended for those who can't sit through the low-budget TV series. Even better, though, was Monty Python And the Holy Grail, which followed a few years later.
