A Thinking Man
Despite the perhaps pretentious title of this section, it seemed the most honest and appropriate way to present some works, many of which I have pondered over and studied for many years.
Yes, you do need to think a bit with them...and I'm not ashamed of that, nor do I wave it as a flag, these works are what they are, humans trying to make sense of Life:
Books For Thought
...self-explanatory, really:
Movies For Thought
..again, self explanatory:
-
Apocalypse Now
-
Baraka
-
Birdy
-
Shattered Glass
-
Supersize Me
-
The Life Of David Gale
Gurdjieff
...the mysterious philosopher that many consider a charlatan. I "chanced" upon Gurdjieff's ideas in the late 1970s and have always found them to to be... without parallel. To say that he's influenced my life would be a massive understatement but to claim that he's made much of a difference would be insulting, to him!
N.B.: I've incorporated some of my personal Gurdjieff story into the review of King Crimson guitarist, Robert Fripp's solo album, Exposure.
Since I was a boy, I've been fascinated by Hitler, not World War 2, particularly, just Hitler.
So, for those who're interested in a man who mesmerised Germany, demolished mainland Europe, killed many millions and was prepared to put tens of millions into slavery...here are some resources that I've found interesting:
-
Albert Speer: His Battle With Truth
-
Albert Speer: The Spandau Diaries
-
The Book Of Alfred Kantor (water paintings)
-
The Spear Of Destiny (book purporting to be fact)
-
Triumph Of Will (documentary)
