The
Andrew Goulding
story:
Hi, welcome to andrewgoulding.com. As you'll notice, this site has no fancy header and as you go through it, intentionally, very few bells and whistles. That's because it was initially designed to be to "vanity" site, a complement to my commercial sites, much like an expanded "About Us" page, from which my customers could find out a bit more about me. The aim was that if they found out about the person, they might consider purchasing more readily.
For that reason, I wanted to keep the layout very simple, almost stark, so there would be no atmosphere created or implied, mererly words on a page. The intention was to fill my self-named site with reviews of whatever had been important to me through my life, predominantly:
-
pop music, essentially covering the years 1966-1980
-
books, the few that took my fancy, though I've read many more, plus my own, The View From Bondi (see graphic to the left) &
-
movies, mostly covering the years 1980-2007 with many sometimes obscure quality flicks
...but the project has somehow grown considerably bigger than what I'd originally intended. In writing all those reviews, the site became, in effect, a weird online autobiography with little bits and pieces of my life interwoven through the several hundred reviews & then expanded through numerous blog posts and even a diversion into Philosophy. I can hear you asking...and I've certainly asked myself:
"...Why go to all this trouble of reviewing pieces of work that are 20-30-40 years old? Who cares about all that oldie stuff?"
"...Who wants to know anything about Andrew Goulding's rants, raves and philosophical ponderings?"
"...Who wants to know what I think is funny? Really, who gives a damn?"
And the bottom line is, will my customers like it?
Well, I hope so. However, as the site grew, I realised that all sorts of pop music and movie fans might also find it via search engines...and andrewgoulding.com has become just as much for them, a gift from a fan to other fans. So, if you're interested one man's reaction to a lifetime's worth of observing mass media, the menu's on your left. Welcome to my world...
